Bose QC 45 headphones might launch soon as FCC listing appears

Sony might be hitting headlines with new earbuds like the WF-1000XM4 but Bose might be about to launch a new pair of flagship over-ear noise cancelling headphones. Here’s what we know about the Bose QC 45.

These are also known as the QuietComfort 45 and will be a follow up to the QC 35 Mk II which arrived way back in 2017 so we’re overdue a replacement. Although, Bose did launch the Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 in 2019.

They will go up against the Sony WH-1000XM4, Huawei FreeBuds Studio and Apple AirPods Max among others. Sadly, there’s not a huge amount we know about the new Bose headphones for 2021 just yet but the fact we have some news is a good start.

As spotted by WinFuture, an FCC (Federal Communications Commission) listing for the headphones provides us with the first details.

Firstly, they are listed at the ‘QuietComfort 45’ rather than, say, the QC 35 Mk III so this is a new model number.

However, you wouldn’t really know going by the images which show a pair of headphones looking awfully similar to the 35 Mk II. Sony hasn’t exactly changed the design of its latest pair either, though.

The FFC listing doesn’t reveal any specs other than this is a Bluetooth device, but that was a given really. We assume the QC 45 will also come with active noise cancelling (ANC) and long battery life.

Bose will have to add some smart features to keep up with rivals, though, as Sony and Apple both offer things like spatial audio and, for the former, things like Ambient Sound Control which can adjust the noise cancelling depending on where you are or what you’re doing.

As more information about the QuietComfort 45 becomes available, we’ll add it to this article. Check out our best headphones chart to see what headphones are the top buys right now.
