Google has opened out its cool new Gemini Live feature free to use to all Android smartphone users.
Just last week Google rolled out Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing as part of an otherwise lean Pixel Drop.
The only catch here was that it was only available for Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S25 owners. Google said that it would be coming to all of Android soon, but only for those with a paid up Gemini Advanced subscription.
Free for all (Android users)
Now Google has announced that the feature will be freely available to any Android users with the Gemini app.
“We’ve been hearing great feedback on Gemini Live with camera and screen share, so we decided to bring it to more people,” Google posted to X (formerly Twitter).
“Starting today and over the coming weeks, we’re rolling it out to all Android users with the Gemini app. Enjoy!”
What is Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing?
Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing allows you to show Google’s Gemini AI what you’re looking at through the phone’s camera, or to share what’s on your screen. You can then ask a question or get advice about what’s in view.
Google’s example video shows a woman at an aquarium who points their Pixel phone’s camera at a shark and asks Gemini “what kind of shark is that?”. Google’s AI assistant duly obliges with a natural but knowledgable spiel about the creature in front of her.
This being Gemini, the fish enthusiast is then able to scan over to another occupant of the tank in front of her and say “what about the black and yellow one” and “and who is this guy?”, and Gemini doesn’t miss a beat.
It’s an undeniably cool new feature, so it’s great news that many more people are going to be able to try it out for free through the Gemini app.
