Govt warns of multiple vulnerabilities in Google Chrome, asks users to update their browsers – ET Government

Vulnerabilities in Google Chrome.

CERT-In, the Government of India’s nodal agency for responding to computer security incidents as and when they occur, has released a new vulnerability note which flags multiple vulnerabilities in Google Chrome. The severity rating is “high.”

According to CERT-In, these vulnerabilities could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, cause denial of Service (DoS) conditions and disclose sensitive information on the targeted system.

The note from CERT-In says that “these vulnerabilities exist in Google Chrome due to Use after free in Vulkan and Loader; Out of bounds memory access in CSS, V8 and Fonts. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by sending a specially crafted request on the targeted system. Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, cause denial of Service (DoS) conditions and disclose sensitive information on the targeted system.”

The immediate solution to these vulnerabilities is to apply the appropriate security patches from the vendor, which is Google Chrome. In other words, to avoid phishing attacks, data breaches, and malware infections, users must urgently update their browsers.
