The Honor Magic V5 foldable is officially set to go global with its Galaxy Z Fold 7-rivalling specs.
While the Honor Magic V5 was initially launched in China and a few other territories last month, the lack of anything approaching a global rollout made us hesitant to label it a potential rival to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Now, however the company has confirmed that it will be holding a UK and European launch event in London on 28 August.

Honor Magic V5 specs
Thanks to that earlier launch, we already know what the Magic V5 has got to offer – and it’s looking pretty impressive.
Its design gets close to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 on thinness (8.8mm) and lightness (217g), which it runs on the same Snapdragon 8 Elite processor.
Another stand out is the brightness of its two displays. Both the 7.95-inch internal AMOLED and the 6.43-inch cover display can hit 5000 nits in peak HDR scenarios.

Where the Magic V5 could really score big over its rivals is with its 5820mAh battery. That’s pretty large for any phone, let alone a foldable.
We’re also looking forward to seeing how the Honor Magic V5’s triple camera array holds up, with a new 64MP 3x telephoto and a 50MP ultra-wide joining the 50MP main sensor.
Honor UK has issued an X post to celebrate the date of the event, as well as to offer an illustration of the Magic V5’s extreme toughness. Talking of which…
Honor Magic V5 weight-lifting feats
One other interesting morsel of information to emerge concerning the Magic V5 is an indication of just how tough its hinge is likely to be.
The new foldable has set a new Guinness World Record for the heaviest weight lifted by a suspended foldable phone. It’s a niche award, alright, but an impressive one nonetheless.
It involved the Magic V5’s ‘Super Steel Hinge’ bearing the weight of an 84kg fridge and 20kg of weighted plates. That’s 104kg of pressure directly applied to the Magic V5’s folding mechanism.
With the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold also set to launch over the coming days, the foldable scene is really starting to get interesting.
