Awards season is finally upon us, and for the British film industry the BAFTAs are the cream of the crop. Whilst UK viewers will be able to watch along on BBC One, viewers from other countries may not have the same luxury.
Fortunately, we’ve investigated to find out exactly how all viewers can tune in, no matter where they are in the world. We have detailed the same for The Oscars.
The nominations show Nomadland and Rocks leading the pack, with both films being up for seven awards each. The Father, Mank, Minari and Promising Young Woman are all just behind with six nominations.
When are the 2021 BAFTA Film Awards?
The 2021 BAFTA Film Awards will be held across two days on Saturday 10 April and Sunday 11 April 2021. The event will still be live from London’s Royal Albert Hall as usual, but no audience will be present due to the coronavirus.
The show will be aired live on BBC One and BBC One HD in the UK. It’s also likely to be aired later on TV – instead of being aired live, an edited version is usually broadcast later that evening in order to shorten the runtime.
Which channel are the BAFTAs on?
If you’re in the UK, the easiest way to watch the BAFTAs is simply on the BBC, which will be televising coverage of the ceremony on both nights.
BBC Two will broadcast the first night, in which eight winners will be revealed. This evening will also showcase some behind-the-scenes footage of the nominees. BBC One will then broadcast the second night, where the remaining 17 winners will be unveiled.
The BBC coverage will likely last for around two hours, and will focus on the awards ceremony itself – though you’ll be able to watch red carpet arrivals on the and on their , Twitter, , Snapchat (search ‘BAFTA’) and channels.
The BAFTA website has , but the list does not include the United States. However, we do know one sure fire method that will work, no matter where you are in the world.
How to watch the BAFTAs online
If you’re in the UK and pay the licence fee, the easiest way to watch the BAFTAs online will be through BBC iPlayer, which you can use to watch .
This will also be the best way to watch the awards live if you’re outside the US. You’ll want to use a VPN like NordVPN or ExpressVPN, currently our recommended VPNs for iPlayer, which will let you browse as if you’re based in the UK, and access iPlayer as normal.
You can also take a look at our list of recommended free VPN’s, but the limited server options will make streaming quite difficult.
As always, bear in mind that this is breaking the BBC’s terms of service, so proceed at your own risk. You’ll also need to set up a free iPlayer account, which requires a valid UK postcode.
Who is hosting the BAFTA Awards?
There will be a few hosts for the 74th British Academy Film Awards. The first night will be hosted by Clara Amfo, and the second night will be hosted by Edith Bowman and Dermot O’Leary.
