After the volley of launch events that Samsung fired off at the start of the year, Samsung has gone a little quiet again – but we know that the Korean giant has something big up its sleeve for the delayed MWC 2021 tech conference.
Samsung has already confirmed that it will hold an event at MWC where it will reveal “the future of smartwatches,” which everyone has taken to mean that we’ll finally get our first proper look at the company’s collaboration with Google on the next generation of Wear OS, first teased at Google I/O.
We don’t know exactly what to expect from Samsung’s event – will we actually see new hardware unveiled? – but we do at least know when, and where to watch the whole thing live.
What time is the Samsung MWC event?
The Samsung Galaxy MWC event is set to take place on Monday 28 June at the following time:
- Pacific Time (PST): 10:15am
- Eastern Time (EST): 1:15pm
- British Summer Time (BST): 6:15pm
- Central European Summer Time (CEST): 7:15pm
- Korea Standard Time (KST): 2:15am (29 June)

What will Samsung announce at MWC 2021?
First up, while Samsung has plenty of big phones on the horizon – most notably the Galaxy Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3, and S21 FE – don’t expect to see any of them launch at MWC.
Instead the focus is firmly on ecosystem and wearable. Here’s the official blurb:
“At the event, Samsung will be showcasing how the Galaxy ecosystem of connected devices is set to provide people with even greater possibilities for enriching their lifestyles.
“Samsung will also be unveiling its vision for the future of smartwatches at the event with new opportunities for both developers and users designed to deliver a new era of smartwatch experiences. Furthermore, understanding how device security has never been more important than it is nowadays, the company will be sharing its latest security enhancements and innovations designed to give users protection and peace of mind in an open and connected world.”
It’s the second part of that that’s really key, as it seems to promise the reveal of the next generation of Wear OS, first tipped at Google I/O.
Usually developed internally by Google, the latest version is instead a collaboration with Samsung based on the company’s expertise with its own Galaxy Watch line, and promises to be a major revamp to the wearable operating system, which has never taken off in the way that Android did for phones.
Of course, new software is nothing without hardware to run it. While we’d be surprised to see a full reveal of the upcoming Galaxy Watch 4 line, it might make sense that Samsung would tease a few specific details or features, so it’s likely that we’ll see something from the new watches at the event.
