The Suicide Squad is the next DC film in line, and the sequel to the 2016 film Suicide Squad (yes we know, the names are extremely confusing).
Whilst the first film about the DC villains was quite universally hated, there’s a lot of anticipation for The Suicide Squad – what with it being headed by the MCU’s James Gunn and the stellar cast line-up which includes Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, John Cena and Peter Capaldi.
The Suicide Squad is on the list of Warner Bros. films that will be releasing both in cinemas and on HBO Max on the same day. This means that US viewers will have the choice of going to the cinemas and watching it at home.
But what about UK DC fans? We’ve rounded up everything you need to know – including how to watch The Suicide Squad on HBO Max in the UK, whether it will come to VOD services, what cinemas it will be out in and more. We also have similar articles for Black Widow and Dune.
When is The Suicide Squad out in the UK?
We’re not long from The Suicide Squad releasing, as the films hits cinemas in the UK on 30 July 2021, and HBO Max on 6 August 2021.

How to watch The Suicide Squad in the UK on HBO Max
If you don’t fancy heading to the pictures, then you can watch The Suicide Squad on HBO Max here in the UK.
If you’d like to sign up for HBO Max, you can do so on the website for $14.99 per month. There will be a cheaper subscription available by the time The Suicide Squad comes out, but you won’t be able to watch new movie releases on this type of plan.
HBO Max is currently exclusive to America. However, you can still sign up for an account right here in the UK using a phone and a VPN. VPNs (virtual private networks) reroute your IP address so you can browse the web as if you’re from another country.

Billing information for HBO Max
For the next step, you’ll need the HBO Max app. We have successfully tested this method using NordVPN and an Android phone.
Once you’ve bought the VPN you want, you’ll need to download it on either your iOS or Android device. The HBO Max website currently only allows you to sign up if you have a payment card that’s tied to the US. If you don’t have that, here are the steps you should take:
- Launch your VPN on your iOS/Android device and connect to a US server
- Create a new Apple ID/Google Play account in your browser that’s tied to the US (leave the country blank)
- Register your new account on your iOS/Android device app store
- You should now have access to the US app store – download and install the HBO Max app
- Tap ‘skip’ if the app store asks you to add payment information to your iOS/Google Play account before you’ve installed HBO Max
- Create a new account in the HBO Max app with your email address and password
- Use PayPal as your method of payment (this can be a UK account)
- Once your account is verified, you can sign in from any device
There have been reports of users not being able to install HBO Max on iOS as the app store forces users to register their payment details and doesn’t accept UK PayPal if you try to register with this account.
To get round this, we recommend purchasing US App Store credit via a digital gift card – which can be added as a US payment option.
You can purchase this from places such as Amazon US, though there are other retailers available. You’ll need a website that allows you to pay with UK bank details. The typical minimum amount you can purchase will be $25 – enough to cover one month’s subscription of HBO Max.
When the site asks you to put in the recipient, enter your own email address and the code to redeem the money will be sent to your inbox. Then when you need to add payment information in the app store, select ‘redeem gift card or code’, and you should be able to add the money as credit on your account.
With this, you should then be able to sign up for an HBO Max account. Once your account is active, you can change your payment information back to your UK PayPal via the website to avoid having to pay for a new gift card every single time.
We’d like to stress that all of these methods are technically against HBO’s terms of service, so the company could cancel your account at any time. Proceed at your own risk.
Will The Suicide Squad release on UK steaming services, VOD or DVD?
The Suicide Squad will not release on UK streaming services at the same time it releases on HBO Max. It will only become available on here – and on DVD – after a few months have passed since the initial theatrical release.
