Amazon’s got some amazing deals in its ongoing Prime Day sale, but this Echo Show and Ring doorbell bundle immediately caught our eye as one of the best value we’ve seen today. For a limited time you can pick up Echo Show 5 and Ring Video Doorbell Wired for just £49.99, or step up to the Echo Show 8 for just £69.99!
What makes this such a great deal is not only the fact they are in essence two-for-one, but that you can quickly, easily and cheaply transform your home into a smart home for less than £50.
Ring’s Video Doorbell Wired (reviewed – 4.5/5 Tech Advisor Recommended) is the brand-new entry model in its line-up, but although it’s affordable it is not light on features. Like other Ring cameras, it records 1080p video of the area immediately outside your front door, alerting you to anyone at the door even if they haven’t pressed the buzzer, and it also supports two-way audio.
Typically you’d receive an alert in real time on your smartphone, provided you’re logged into the free Ring app, but by combining the doorbell with an Echo Show device you can also watch and interact with the video feed live on your smart display without even picking up your phone.
Echo Show is a lot more than a display for your video doorbell, of course. As an Alexa-enabled device it supports all the features you’d expect to find on an Echo smart speaker, from answering your random questions about the weather, news headlines or search queries, to playing music, displaying notifications and controlling all your smart home kit.

Over in the US there are some similar but slightly different deals available: you can pick up a Ring Video Doorbell Wired with the first-gen Echo Show 5 for $64.99 ($74.99 off), with a free Echo Dot 3 for $44.99, or with the latest-generation Echo Dot 4 for $69.98 ($40 off).
Is there a catch?
So you must be wondering what’s the catch. There really isn’t one, although you must be a Prime member to take advantage of the deal – sign up for a free trial now. Even if you’ve had a free trial before, you can sign up for another once every 12 months.
You should note that these are first-generation Echo Show devices, which is probably why Amazon is trying to get rid of them so cheaply, but they are by no means old – our reviews of the second-gen models went online literally last week. And just because there is a newer model it doesn’t mean there is suddenly something wrong with the older devices, which scored very highly in our reviews:
If you would rather buy a second-gen Echo Show, you’ll currently pay a lot more for the device and you won’t get the Ring doorbell thrown in. The second-gen Echo Show 5 (reviewed) currently costs £74.99, while the second-gen Echo Show 8 (reviewed) has £35 off at £84.99.
Something to consider is that Ring video doorbells work best when paired with a Ring Protect subscription, which is standard for all video doorbells, but it is not essential to use the camera. You’ll get a 30-day free trial with the camera, after which it costs £2.50 per month or £24.99 per year (discounts are available if you have multiple Ring devices). Without the subscription you’ll still get real-time notifications and two-way audio, but add Ring Protect to unlock rich notifications, video recording, photo capture and sharing.
