It’s almost hard to believe, but It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has now aired a whopping fourteen seasons, which means it has tied with ‘50s sitcom The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as the longest-running ever.
Season 14 is now available to watch in both the UK and US, but that means it’s officially time for the long wait for the record-making season 15. Here’s what we know so far.
Has it been renewed for season 15?
Yup – the show was renewed for a fifteenth season, which is set to air some time in 2021.
Creator they’ll “keep doing it forever,” amid fears that his show Mythic Quest would take away from their Sunny time.
“It takes us about five months to make a season of Sunny. We have that period of our lives carved. We’re going to keep doing it forever if people keep watching,” he said.
It’s not quite forever, but the show has been renewed for a whopping four more seasons, carrying it through to season 18. Let that sink in for a moment. The gang are gonna be around for a while.
How to watch It’s Always Sunny outside the US
Despite its success, It’s Always Sunny still doesn’t have a day-and-date broadcaster in the UK. Netflix UK has all of the show’s previous seasons, but new material doesn’t hit the service for months after the US air date – so whenever season 15 airs in the US, there’ll then be a long wait for it to come to the UK.
If you can’t wait that long, there are legal ways to watch it online, but it won’t be free. Since FXX is a cable channel it isn’t free-to-watch even in the US. If you’re based outside the US then you probably don’t have a US cable subscription, but luckily there are online alternatives.
If you subscribe to any of , or you’ll be able to stream the full season. None of those are free, but if you watch a lot of US TV they might be worth it, as they each give you access to loads of channels.
You won’t be able to just sign up from the UK or elsewhere though – you’ll need to both sign up and watch through a VPN, which masks your IP address, letting you appear to be in the US. There are loads out there – check out our streaming VPN ranking for a selection – but our current recommendation is NordVPN.
If you’re not sure what to do next, we have a dedicated guide to watching Hulu from the UK which will walk you through signing up to the service. Most of the same steps should apply for PlayStation Vue, YouTube TV, or other similar services.
What to expect from season 15
All of the core five stars were back in season 14 – Glenn Howerton, Rob McElhenney, Charlie Day, Kaitlin Olson, and of course Danny DeVito – along the usual array of recurring characters, and we’d expect to see them all next time too.
There’s no word yet on who might appear in season 15, but it’ll have to somehow match season 14’s jawdropper: ‘80s action star Dolph Lundgren , playing Johnny Thundergun, in a callback to season 11’s ‘Thunder Gun Express’ episode.
We also know that show is going to get a little political, with McElhenney telling Twitter that the new season will be “all about this bullshit,” presumably referring to the Covid pandemic – though he tweeted just days after the storming of the Capitol building, which would also make one hell of a season finale.
Yes. We’re doing one and it will most likely be all about this bullshit. Also dick jokes

Lest we forget, there was also the time Rudy Giuliani accidentally held a press conference at a tiny Philly landscaping company called Four Seasons, which looks like it could be just down the block from Paddy’s.
“That has been discussed,” Howerton told when asked about referencing the incident on the show. “Normally we would not do something like that because it’s something the audience has already thought of and it’s too obvious but man … that’s some good low-hanging fruit. I don’t know. We’ll see. But it’s tempting, it’s very tempting.”
