The Oculus Quest 2 – though technically the Meta Quest 2 now, but whatever – is the most popular VR headset around in 2022, and it’s not hard to see why, striking a great balance between portability, power and price.
The standalone nature of the headset means you don’t need an expensive gaming PC or state-of-the-art console to power VR experiences – it just works, wherever you want to play VR.
It’s already a tempting buy with an impressive $299/$299, but with Amazon’s two-day Prime Day extravaganza coming ever closer, it’s likely that we’ll see discounts on the Quest 2. We keep track of the best Quest 2 deals this Prime Day right here.
When is Prime Day 2022?
As confirmed by Amazon, the Amazon Prime Day extravaganza will take place on 12 and 13 July 2022.
The 48-hour deal event will be packed full of discounts on gadgets and products of all shapes and sizes, with the fun kicking off at 12am local time in most countries – though if you’re in the US it’ll begin and end at midnight PT, which translates to 3am ET.
The return to a July Prime Day sale signals a return to normality for Amazon, which shifted its Prime Day to 21-22 June in 2021, and in October back in 2020, due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Prior to that, July Prime Day events had been a staple for five years in a row.

What will the best Oculus Quest Prime Day deals offer?
The downside to the Quest 2 is that it’s already very competitively priced, making deals harder to come by than other tech available in 2022.
That being said, looking back at the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales period back in late 2021, there was a surprise $50/£50 cashback offer on all sales of Meta’s standalone headset. It’s possible that this could return for Prime Day 2022, bringing the headset down to $249/£249 and $349/£349 respectively.
There has also been the occasional deal on Oculus Store credit, with new owners awarded with credit on their Oculus accounts ready to spend on VR apps and games. For a newcomer to the platform, that’s a very handy thing to have.
Though we’ve yet to see Quest 2 bundles appear on Amazon, it’s worth noting that competing retailers like Currys in the UK currently offer a discounted Quest 2 & carry case bundle, so it’s possible that we’ll see bundles begin to appear on Amazon over the Prime Day sale period.

Is the Quest 2 better than the original Quest?
Simply put, the Quest 2 is a huge improvement on the original Quest, and even if you’ve got the original, you’ll see a vast improvement – but you can read our review to find out why.
In a nutshell, the Quest 2 is 10% lighter than its predecessor, which translates to a more comfortable experience, but the key upgrade is the display.
At 2K per eye, it boasts over 50% more pixels than the original Quest. The display is bright, detailed and higher res than some PC VR headsets – and with Air Link, playing PC VR games wirelessly is a doddle. There’s also a jump from 60Hz to 90Hz, with an experimental 120Hz mode also available on the headset.
There is also a range of Quest accessories that further improve the Quest 2 experience, and there are plenty of amazing Quest games that only run on the second-gen headset.
