Razer launches three new Blade gaming laptops for 2022

Laptops have taken CES by storm this year and Razer wasn’t going to be left out of the action so has revealed a new range of Blade gaming laptops for 2022.

The Blade 14, Blade 15 and Blade 17 arrive with a host of upgrades including Intel 12th-gen H-Series or AMD Ryzen 6000 processors, Nvidia GeForce RTX graphics, DDR5 memory and Windows 11. To this end, Razer calls them the “world’s fastest laptops for gamers and creators.”

Razer has also refined the design of the Blade laptops while keeping their iconic and recognisable look. The CNC-milled aluminum chassis includes laser-cut speakers, a new thinner hinge design and additional ventilation with new rubber feet to create convenient cooling airways.

The firm has also tweaked the keyboard “with the gamer’s wellness in mind”, which essentially means larger keys to make things more ergonomic.

All new Razer laptops announced at CES have specs such as a 1TB PCIe Gen 4 SSD, USB-C with Thunderbolt 4, HDMI 2.1 and a high-speed UHS-II SD card reader. They also have a new two-year battery warranty.

Blade 14 2022

It might be the smallest of the new range, but the Blade 14 doesn’t involve making sacrifices. Models are equipped with the brand-new AMD Ryzen 9 processor and 16GB of DDR5 memory. The screen options include Full HD @144Hz or Quad [email protected]

And like the larger model, it now has the same fingerprint-resistant coating.

Of course, the idea here is for the laptop to be highly portable, and at 16.8mm thin and 1.78kg it certainly achieves that goal.

Despite this, you can have up to a GeForce RTX 3080 Ti GPU, while a new MUX Switch makes sure you get the best performance by effectively disabling the GPU integrated into the CPU.

If you need to use the Blade 14 for work then it has a 1080p webcam which also supports Windows Hello log in.

The new Razer Blade 14 for 2022 starts at US$1,999.99/€2,199.99 and will be available for pre-order at Razer and select retailers on 10 February.

Here what you’ll pay for the three models:

  • RTX 3060, Full HD, 144Hz – $1,999 (around £1,499)
  • RTX 3070 Ti, Quad HD, 165Hz – $2,599 (around £1,999)
  • RTX 3080 Ti, Quad HD, 165Hz – $3,499 (around £2,599)

Blade 15 2022

The Blade 15 sits in the middle of the range and is largely similar to previous versions. However, the main news for this year is an IPS Ultra HD model with a 144Hz refresh rate.

Razer Blade 15 2022

Unlike the Blade 14, the 15in model uses Intel chips up to a 12th-gen Core i9 with 14 cores. Graphics is still up to an RTX 3080 Ti and weight is a smidge over 2kg.

If you don’t fancy splashing out on that new 4K model, there are plenty of others to choose from including Full HD @360Hz and Quad HD @240Hz options. With six models in total, Razer says the “Blade 15 remains the perfect gaming laptop.”

The Blade 15 2022 starts at US$2,499/€2,799.99 and will be available to pre-order from Razer and select retailers from 25 January.

Razer Blade 17 2022

It’s got double the number of speakers as the previous generation with no less than eight drivers. And if you do take it out and about – possible at 2.75kg – the larger 82Whr battery (up 10Whr) means you can game for longer away from mains power.

When you do charge, the new 280W power supply offers 100W more in a similar size to the old 180W brick.

When it comes to core specs, it’s a similar deal to the Blade 15 with Intel 12th-gen chips, up to RTX 3080 Ti graphics and a choice of different screen resolutions and refresh rates.

The Blade 17 2022 starts at US$2,699/€2,999.99 and will be available to pre-order from Razer and select retailers from 25 January.
