Samsung has updated its steam wardrobe. The new iteration of the AirDresser is getting the Samsung Bespoke treatment. This means that, like its fridge range, its Bespoke Jet vacuum cleaner and other appliance lines, the AirDresser will soon be available in a range of colours and finishes.
And, if you’re in the US, you can buy it now. Well – sort of.
The Bespoke AirDresser is in both the standard ($1,199, down from $1,599) and Grand sizes ($1,399, down from $1,899).
But there’s a catch. As of right now, it’s only available in a mirrored finish, so buyers don’t currently get the choice of six material and colour finishes that are supposed to make it Bespoke.
What is the Bespoke AirDresser?
The Bespoke AirDresser is an upgrade to the original AirDresser, which is a new type of laundry appliance. Like LG’s competing product, the Styler, it’s a steam wardrobe. It won’t replace a washing machine, dryer or iron but it will give you another way to refresh garments, steam clean bedding and kids’ toys, remove wrinkles from clothes, dry damp coats and more.
It’s essentially a wardrobe with space to hang garments that’ll be agitated and steamed to remove odours and wrinkles, a shelf onto which you can put pillows or toys to sanitise them and a trouser press inside the door.
It only needs a plug point to operate. It doesn’t need to be plumbed in as it has a water reservoir that you fill yourself. It does, however, have smart features. Download Samsung’s SmartThings app and it’ll suggest cleaning cycles and store details of your garments for one-touch cleaning programmes.
If you leave the door open, the AirDresser will also act as a room dehumidifier.
When can you buy Samsung’s Bespoke AirDresser?
The full range of colours is not yet available but if you’re in the US, you can buy the mirrored Bespoke AirDresser. If you’re in the UK, you’ll still have to wait.
This suggests that supply chain problems may have delayed the launch. In a , Samsung stated that the Bespoke AirDresser would first be launched in the US and Europe, before being made available in other regions before the end of 2021.
Then, at Samsung’s UK-focused Life Unstoppable event on 12 October, the Bespoke AirDresser was mentioned but no date was set for launch.
How much will the Bespoke AirDresser cost?
The original AirDresser costs £1,999 in the UK for the standard size appliance.
In the US, it comes in two sizes. The standard, which has space for three garments, costs $1,599 although, at the time of writing, it’s direct from Samsung. The larger model, the Grand, has an RRP of $1,899 but you can currently .
According to the Samsung website, the new Bespoke AirDresser Grand also has an RRP of $1,899, while the standard size is priced at $1,599. However, we don’t know if this will be the same for all colour options and finishes.
We’d expect the Bespoke models to cost a little more than the standard appliance. On its South Korean website, Samsung is selling for 1,439,000 won. The costs 1,799,000 won.
These prices would convert to €1,053/ $1,224/ £889 for the standard and €1,316/ $1,530 /£1,111 for the Grand. The converted prices are actually lower than those we’d expect to see.
What features does the Bespoke AirDresser have?
The Bespoke AirDresser will also come in two sizes, although we don’t know if both will be available in all markets. It’ll also have a long dress zone, so you can refresh longer garments.
It’s had a smart functionality upgrade, compared to the original appliance. If you also own a Samsung smart washer, the two can “speak to” each other via the SmartThings app, and the washer will recommend an appropriate drying cycle.
However, the real reason to buy the Bespoke is its new colour options.
Which colours will the Bespoke AirDresser be available in?
The Bespoke AirDresser will be available in six colour and material options, although we don’t know if all options will be available in all territories. The colour options are called Crystal Mirror, Glam White, Glam Pink, Satin Beige, Cotta White and Cotta Charcoal. It sounds as though some of these options have a matt, rather than a mirrored finish.
How you choose your colour option depends on which size model you buy. Opt for the standard 18-inch AirDresser and you can choose from a choice of colours and finishes. The 24-inch comes with the Crystal Mirror finish as standard but you can buy an additional panel and swap it out.
