Sharp’s 2021 range delivers affordable Android TVs

Sharp has announced a range of Ultra HD smart televisions running Android TV starting at some affordable prices.

Not everyone has a few thousand pounds or dollars to splash on a new TV but Sharp is on hand to offer something at the value end of the market. The new 2021 range starts at £529 (around $750) but offers 4K Ultra HD resolution and Google’s Android TV smart platform for all your streaming needs.

You might not guess the price of these models based on a picture due to Sharp’s new ‘frameless’ design. A tiny bezel around the screen and small feet give the impression of a much higher-end TV.

One of the main lures here is having Android TV built-in, with Google’s custom operating system for televisions giving users an easy way to access a wealth of content from the likes of Netflix, Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video and many more – subscriptions are required to watch some of those, naturally.

There are more than 7,000 apps you can download from the Google Play Store and Sharp has also included Chromecast technology so you can wirelessly cast content from your phone with minimal hassle.

Plus, the remote control has a microphone built-in to use the Google Assistant with your voice providing “helpful support in everyday life and makes operation simple and uncomplicated.”

Not only are these TVs 4K, but they also offer HDR with both HDR10 and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) standards. The Sharp DN models also have Dolby Vision which some flagship TVs like the Samsung QN95A don’t offer.

Of course, at lower prices, you won’t be getting the latest tech such as Mini-LED found in the QN95A. Instead, Sharp offers LCD LED with sizes up to 65in and brightness at 400 nits – not ideal for HDR content but hardly uncommon for cheaper sets.

They do have integrated sound systems from Harman Kardon and the DN models have Dolby Atmos surround sound technology, too, along with DTS Virtual:X premium audio post-processing. Opting for the 65in DN will get you a 2.1 system where two speakers are joined by a 15W subwoofer.

The Sharp DL and DN TVs will arrive ‘summer of 21’ with prices starting at £529.99 for a 50in (50DL3KA) or £549.99 for the DN in the same size (50DN3KA).

Prices then jump to £729.99 (around $1030) and £724.99 (around $1060) for the 65in models respectively, the 65DL3KA and 65DN3KA.
