Chinese electronics giant TCL used CES 2021 to introduce its new 20 Series smartphones; expanding the range in April and now – as part of its MWC 2021 showcase – the company confirmed that it’s bringing members of this lineup to US customers too.
After having launched the TCL 20 5G and 20 SE at the Consumer Electronics Show at the start of the year and bringing the 20 Pro 5G, 20L, 20L+ and 20S to European markets in April 2021, now it’s the US’s turn, at least with regards to the TCL 20 Pro 5G, 20 S and 20 SE.
The company used the latter portion of its announcements during this year’s Mobile World Congress exhibition to confirm the 20 Series’ expansion Stateside; fronted by the mid-range TCL 20 Pro 5G – the line’s current most capable handset.
TCL 20 Pro 5G
The Pro 5G leads with a standout design – relative to the rest of the range – backed by a segmented quad-camera system, reminiscent of the LG Velvet.
It leads with a curved 6.67in Full HD+ AMOLED display, sporting the company’s NXTVISION 2.0 tech, which promises “industry-leading” colour accuracy and AI-enhanced colour, contrast and sharpness adjustment.
Other more premium touches include wireless charging support, an OIS (optical image stabilisation)-supported lead camera, microSD expandability up to 1TB and, of course, 5G support.
Like all of the device’s announced today, the 20 Pro 5G is also on sale from 28 June, priced at $499.99 and slated as working “with most GSM networks at launch,
including T-Mobile 5G/4G and AT&T 4G, and Verizon low-band 5G and 4G in the coming
weeks.”
TCL 20S
The TCL 20S, which hasn’t seen release in markets including the UK or Spain, slots in between the likes of the budget TCL 20 SE and the original TCL 20 5G.
The 4G-capable 20S comes powered by a Snapdragon 665 chipset and sports a 64Mp sensor-led rear camera arrangement, along with stereo speakers, a 6.67in Full HD+ IPS LCD and a sizeable 5000mAh battery with reverse charging functionality.
TCL was also keen to shout about the fact that it’s the “first phone to come to the US with TUV
Rheinland-certified Circular Polarization Display technology, reducing eye strain by up to 85%.”
Available for half the price of the Pro 5G, the 20S is up for grabs for $249.99, and is compatible with Verizon “and most GSM networks, including AT&T and T-Mobile.”
TCL 20 SE
While the 20S may be something of a newer face to market, the TCL 20 SE was one of the first members of the range to debut, back at the start of 2021.
Dubbed the ‘Entertainment Beast’ the phone is most notable for its expansive 6.82in notched display, again with NXTVISION 2.0 technology to offer SDR-to-HDR upscaling and accompanied by a pair of stereo speakers.
While still in possession of a quad camera, the phone overall is the most modest entry in the 20 Series, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 and 4GB RAM – similarly to the OnePlus Nord N100, which also came to the States this year.
The 20 SE arrived in Europe priced at €149, serving as the company’s most affordable phone yet, and that low price carries across to its US tag, starting at $189.99 on Amazon. It’s also cited as being compatible with most GSM networks, including AT&T and T-Mobile.
TCL also confirmed that its Google Fast Pair-compliant MoveAudio S600 headphones are also coming to the US and that its NxtWear G smart glasses are just around the corner too.
