Oppo has confirmed that it will launch its next Android skin, ColorOS 13, on Thursday 18 August 2022.

The company announced back in May that the beta version of Android 13 would roll out on the Oppo Find X5 Pro (the flagship phone in the Find X5 series), as well as the foldable phone, the Find N, which currently is a China exclusive phone. 

The beta is available now to a very limited number of people who can sign up via the settings menu under ‘About device’ on their compatible device and selecting ‘Trial versions’.

Oppo has teased that ColorOS 13 will focus on the safety and privacy elements that Android 13 boasts. Oppo did not elaborate further, but XDA Developers did release a on Android 13 introducing support for DNS over HTTPS (DoH for short), rather than the standard DNS over TLS (DoT). 

This should make it near impossible for attackers to monitor or block DoH queries – XDA Developers discuss how this is the same tech that browsers such as Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome use.  

Oppo also stated that ColorOS 13 will provide more customisation features, not dissimilar to Google’s Material You. Again, no specifics were mentioned, but Android 13 will include themed app icons that match a phone’s colour scheme.  

Productivity will also be a big factor in ColorOS 13, with Oppo tailoring the experience for larger displays and providing more efficient connectivity between multiple devices.

We already have some details about OxygenOS 13, OnePlus’s next OS. Oppo and OnePlus are owned by the same parent company, and as such we may see some shared features in both operating systems. Some of the headliners of OxygenOS 13 include an “aquamorphic design” based on the look of water, a Smart Launcher and spatial audio support.
