When will the new Witcher: Monster Slayer game be released?

If you’re a fan of the exploits of Geralt of Rivia, then you may be pleased to know that a new game is on the way that will allow you to explore his world on your smartphone.

The White Wolf himself isn’t the star, but you’ll still be able to wield your silver and steel swords against a wide range of monsters and bandits in this upcoming mobile AR game – a rather more violent version of Pokémon Go, if you will.

Here’s all we know so far about The Witcher: Monster Slayer.

Watch the Monster Slayer trailers

There have been a couple of trailers so far. The first was the announcement trailer that outlined the idea of the game, as you can see from below:

This was followed by an in-game footage trailer that gave a flavour of what it will be like to play the game. Here it is:

What can we expect from The Witcher: Monster Slayer?

As you can see from the trailer, this is an augmented reality game along the lines of the hugely successful Pokémon Go, which requires you to move around in the physical world, using your smartphone to discover monsters and complete quests.

With most of us now free to go outside once more, this could be the perfect remedy for the last year, as we roam streets, car parks and forests in search of a Striga, Kikimore, or Leshy to despatch.

Unlike Pokémon Go, where you simply catch the monsters, The Witcher: Monster Slayer involves combat that requires you to time your attacks and defensive strokes, plus employ potions to increase your Witcher abilities. Expect plenty of tracking down clues for quests, before a boss battle that brings each adventure to its conclusion.

The Witcher: Monster Slayer - Creatures

You’ll be able to craft bombs, upgrade your weapons, and train your character in the aim of becoming an elite monster-slayer. Each victory allows you to claim a trophy from your fallen foe, so you can quickly build up a collection that shows your prowess as a Witcher.

How much will The Witcher: Monster Slayer cost?

There’s no confirmation on price as yet, but the presence of in-game gold, as revealed in another tweet from the official game account, suggests it will be free-to-play but have in-game purchases.

It’s a standard model these days, but we hope the experience isn’t marred by the need to keep buying upgrades or potions. Otherwise, we’ll all be taking out our lutes and emploring passers-by to ‘toss a coin to your Witcher, o valley of plenty’. Thus, it ever was.
