Just like clockwork, Microsoft is back with another generation of its flagship 2-in-1. The Surface Pro 9 arrives just over a year after its predecessor, and it’s a minor update compared to the Pro 8.
However, there are more upgrades here than you might expect. Most are as a result of the new ARM-based Qualcomm chip, which boosts battery life, adds new AI features and brings 5G to the Surface Pro for the first time. Don’t worry, there are still Intel models if you’d prefer.
The Surface Pro 8 is still the best 2-in-1 you can buy a year later, so there was no need for wholesale changes two years in a row. With the Pro 9 now available to pre-order, here’s everywhere you can buy one in the US and UK.
When will the Surface Pro 9 be released?
The Surface Pro 9 was announced at Microsoft’s hardware event on 12 October 2022, alongside the Surface Laptop 5 and Surface Studio 2+.
Pre-orders are live now, but the release date varies depending on where you’re based. It’s 25 October in the US, but 8 November in the UK.
How much does the Surface Pro 9 cost?
With the addition of ARM, there are lots of different Surface Pro 9 models to choose from. The starting price is the same as last year in the US, but £100 more expensive in the UK (due to Microsoft ditching the 128GB SSD model). Here’s the full range of configurations:

Even that starting price puts in in flagship laptop territory, and you’ll need to pay anywhere from $139.99/£129.99 to $279.99/£259.99 extra for a keyboard cover. Most 2-in-1 laptops are more affordable.
