Google hasn’t even given Android 13 an official on-stage announcement yet but you can already try it out with the release of the first public beta. Those with a compatible Pixel phone can download it now and take it for a spin.
Following two developer previews, Android 13 has now reached Beta 1 with three more versions planned for May, June and July before it hits a stability stage. The final release is to be confirmed but typically happens in autumn/fall around October – likely with the Pixel 7 launch.
Although Android 12 betas were available on non-Google phones, that’s not currently the case for Android 13 but we’ll update this article if that changes. For now, we have all the info Pixel owners need including which models are compatible and how to download the software.

Warning: As is always the case with beta software, it’s not advisable to load it onto your main phone as the software could be buggy or even brick your device. Always backup any important data before installing a beta.

How to download Android 13 Beta
If you have an eligible Pixel phone from the list above, you can get Android 13 in a jiffy. Here’s how to install the OS in a few simple steps.
- Head to the Android Beta Program site, making sure you’re logged into your Google account
- Scroll down to ‘Your eligible devices’ (see screenshot above)
- Select ‘opt in’ on the device you want to install Android 13 on
- Read the T&Cs, tick the relevant boxes and then click ‘Confirm and enroll’
- On your phone head to Settings > System > Advanced > System Update > Check for update
If you ever want to opt out, simply go to the Android Beta Program site and select ‘opt out’ under Your eligible devices where you clicked ‘Opt in’.
