The Fan Edition (FE) models have been present among Samsung’s Galaxy S series phones for several years. These are a slightly cheaper variant, combining the features of a flagship phone with a price tag almost like that of a mid-range model.
The range could be about to expand though, with reports indicating that the Korean giants could be introducing FE models of its foldable phones.
What would the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE have to offer? Here’s everything we know about it at the moment.
When will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE be released?
At the moment, we have no official information on the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip FE.
However, according to rumours from China, the new foldable FE phone will arrive this year. It may also have the number ‘6’ in its name, but we shall see.
As this would be the first clamshell foldable in the FE series, we don’t have a release schedule to guide us, but looking at the release dates of previous Galaxy Z Flip models, we expect it might arrive in July or August 2024 at Galaxy Unpacked, possibly alongside the Galaxy Z Flip 6.
It could be little later than that though, as the Fan Editions of Galaxy S models typically follow a few months afterwards.
How much will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE cost?
We have no official information on the price of the Galaxy Z Flip FE. However, we expect it to be priced cheaper than the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6.
Here are the starting prices of the previous Galaxy Z Flip phones at launch:
What specs and features will the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip FE have?
So far, there have not been many leaks or rumours regarding the Galaxy Z Flip FE.
A report on the China site MyDrivers has a few details about what we might see, but we’d advise these be taken with a pinch of salt.
Design
The leak claims that the phone, when unfolded, will measure 165.2 x 71.9 x 6.9mm. That’s exactly the same as the Z Flip 5, so we expect it to also measure 85.1 x 71.9 x 15.1mm when folded.

Other than that, we don’t know much more about the design, although it is likely to be somewhere between the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 4. It is possible that the phone will have the exact same body as last year’s model, but the external screen may be taken from the Z Flip 4.
The FE model needs to stand out from its more powerful counterpart, so it could be that it will receive a smaller external screen in addition to weaker components.
Display
As a reminder, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 introduced a brand new, larger external screen, which offers far more functionality than that of the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and its predecessors.
If the leaked dimensions are correct, it seems the inner display will also be the same size as the Galaxy Z Flip 5, measuring 6.7 inches diagonally. Similarly, the cover display might be a 3.4-inch panel.

Alternatively, it may be the 1.9-inch cover display from the Z Flip 4.
Performance
The early rumours coming out of China say that the Galaxy Z Flip FE could be powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. It also could potentially be powered by an Exynos chip instead, as is often the case with Samsung models in Europe.
RAM-wise, we’re looking at one sole 8GB version, paired with 128GB, 256GB or 512GB of internal storage.
Cameras
According to rumours, the Z Flip 6 prototype features a 50Mp main lens compared to the Z Flip 5’s 12Mp.
If true, that might mean the Z Flip FE will retain the Z Flip 5’s 12Mp main shooter. The rest of the setup might be the same, including 12Mp ultrawide camera and 10Mp selfie camera.
Battery & charging
The Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 3700mAh cell that delivers solid battery life. It is expected to be the same in the Z Flip 6 and the FE variant will likely feature that cell as well.
We don’t expect it to support charging speed at more than 25W. If Samsung decides to include them, it also might feature 15W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Software
The Z Flip FE is expected to run Samsung’s One UI 6.1 based on Android 14, likely including flip-exclusive features from the Z Flip 5 or the Z Flip 4 and Galaxy AI.
While there’s a chance Android 15 might be available at launch, if that doesn’t turn out to be the case, we’d anticipate a software update shortly after.
That’s all we know about the Galaxy Z Flip FE at this point. Be sure to check out our article on the Galaxy Z Flip 6 if you want to know if it might be worth waiting for the more powerful variant after all.
We also expect Samsung to unveil the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Fold FE at the same time as the clamshell models.
